San Diego FC is finalizing a deal to acquire Lewis Morgan from the New York Red Bulls, sources briefed on the deal told The Athletic on Saturday.
The Red Bulls will receive a SuperDraft pick as part of the compensation. New York is covering a portion of Morgan’s contract, sources said.
Morgan, 29, had a career-best 2024 season with 13 goals and seven assists in 29 appearances. He missed most of the 2025 season due to injury. Morgan first joined MLS in 2020 with Inter Miami, and he has been a productive MLS attacker whenever he has been fit.
San Diego just finished one of the best expansion seasons in league history, finishing atop the Western Conference and getting to the Western Conference final. Morgan can play on either wing or through the center, between stars Anders Dreyer and Chucky Lozano.
San Diego previously re-signed attacker Amahl Pellegrino this winter as well.
The Red Bulls wanted to move players out to make room for new signings. Morgan was one of the highest-paid players on the team, and, even covering some of his deal, the move will free up space for additions this offseason.
