NEW YORK (PIX11) – A fast-moving low-pressure system will bring snow to New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, according to the National Weather Service.

Prepartions

The Department of Sanitation has already begun pre-treating roads with brine and has more than 700 salt spreaders ready to deploy when the storm starts. MTA workers were also assigned to salt and clear surfaces throughout the system in anticipation of the storm. The transit agency has assured that it’s prepared to deploy debris and deicer trains to maintain service with minimal weather-related disruptions.

Saturday night

Snow is expected to begin Saturday night, with a winter weather advisory in effect for the tri-state region from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Sunday.

Midnight

Accumulating snow is expected to reach 2-3 inches in the city.

Outside the Big Apple, in Connecticut and parts of Long Island, might see 3 to 5 inches, according to the National Weather Service.

Overnight

The primary period for snow accumulation in the tri-state area is from midnight to 10 a.m. Sunday, according to the weather service.

Winds are also expected to increase, with northwest gusts of 30 to 40 miles per hour.

Sunday Morning and Afternoon

There is still a 50 percent chance of snow during the day, according to the seven-day forecast. Sunday morning in New York City will start cloudy, then gradually become sunny, with temperatures falling to around 26 degrees by 4 p.m.

Sunday Night

By Sunday evening, the weather will be mostly clear, with lows around 18. Wind chill values will range from 5 to 10. Northwest winds may reach 13 to 16 mph, according to the forecast.

Monday

By Monday, no more snow is expected. The weather is forecasted to be cloudy early in the evening, then gradually clear, with lows around 22 degrees.
