Snow should taper off in New York City by about midday on Sunday before temperatures plummet under clear skies later, as a quick moving winter storm sweeps through the US Northeast.
New York and Washington may both pick up about 4 inches (10 centimeters) of snow, with Long Island getting as much as 5, said Brian Hurley, a senior branch forecaster with the US Weather Prediction Center. Philadelphia and central New Jersey may get as much as 6 inches along with parts of southeastern Massachusetts and Cape Cod. Boston is set to see about 2 inches.
