BROOKLYN HEIGHTS — A BELOVED AND TIME-HONORED NEIGHBORHOOD TRADITION returns on Saturday, Nov. 8, with the Plymouth Church Yankee Fair. This community event, held biennially, offers fun for all ages. The preparation and teamwork are at the core of the Yankee Fair, running from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Bakers and cooks have a major role in the Yankee Fair, and the homemade pies, tea cakes, cookies, brownies, fudge, jams, jellies and relishes anchor the treat table. Fairgoers can also find books, handcrafted gifts and camaraderie.
Since at least 2019, the Yankee Fair has been held every two years. The Brooklyn Heights Press from Thursday, Nov. 9, 1961, chronicles the event. The Nov. 8, 1962, edition references the “sixth annual Yankee Doodle Fair,” with the extra word. Plymouth’s Yankee Fair Committee also hosted “a dime a dip” picnic-style supper on May 16, 1962, according to the May 10 edition of the Heights Press.
