“Monty Python” star Eric Idle has revealed that he spoke to director Rob Reiner for an hour on the phone the day before Reiner and his wife, Michele, were stabbed to death in their Hollywood home.
“Rob Reiner was a lovely man. I spoke to him last night for over an hour,” Idle wrote on X, per the New York Post.
“I always enjoyed his company. I met him at his Dad’s in 1975,” Idle continued. “He was telling me about filming at Stonehenge and his thoughts for the future.”
Reiner’s father was comedy legend Carl Reiner.
Idle said, “This is so awful. I shall miss him. A clever, talented and very thoughtful man. So awful.”
Deadline reported that Reiner, director of iconic films like “A Few Good Men,” “The Princess Bride” and “Spinal Tap,” was working on a reboot of the famous British comedy series “Fawlty Towers,” starring Idle’s “Monty Python” alum John Cleese.
Reiner and his wife were set to produce the reboot through Reiner’s Castle Rock Entertainment.
Reiner shot to fame as the hippie son-in-law Michael “Meathead” Stivic on the legendary TV show “All in the Family.”
Rob and Michele Reiner were discovered stabbed to death by their daughter, Romy, in their Brentwood, Ca., home on Sunday.
Romy Reiner told police that a “dangerous” relative should be sought in the killings.
Authorities later arrested the Reiners’ son, Nick, in the slaying.
Nick has a history of drug addiction and homelessness, the police said.
The Reiner family has released a statement after the killings.
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner,” the family told Variety. “We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”
