CITYWIDE — OUTGOING MAYOR ERIC Adams said he has been in regular contact with Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani and is moving to ensure a “smooth transition” through document exchanges and staff-to-staff meetings, in a wide-ranging interview on CNBC’s “Squawk Box.”

Adams said he is “cautiously” optimistic about the city but warned it will face “real problems” if Mamdani adopts the Democratic Socialists of America’s platform, citing the left-wing group’s opposition to homeless encampment sweeps and prisons in particular.

Adams also defended late-term executive orders as routine protections for New Yorkers and his legacy, arguing that some rent and public safety policies advocated by Mamdani during the campaign could strain small landlords and working-class neighborhoods.

He urged business leaders to cooperate with the next mayor where possible, but to publicly push back if new policies harm quality of life.
