Charlotte Hansen at CNYCentral.com reports New York State Attorney General Letitia James has announced she is suing UPS. The shipping company is accused of underpaying thousands of Holiday Workers across New York State during peak season by failing to record all hours worked and manipulating timekeeping systems to reduce paid hours. UPS is the largest Package Delivery Company in the world, employing more than 500,000 people worldwide and thousands more are employed at 50 facilities across New York State. The investigation began in 2023, after Teamsters Local 804 raised concerns to the Office of the Attorney General about non-payment issues and the impact on Seasonal Workers. The investigation revealed the violations were not isolated incidents. Workers often reported to work at the start of their shifts, only to discover the packages or Drivers needed to begin deliveries had not yet arrived. Drivers would frequently perform other tasks like preparing vehicles, loading packages or traveling between meeting points, but none of this labor was recorded or compensated. According to the Attorney General’s Office, Workers were even reported to work more than 40 hours a week without getting overtime pay, being forced to clock out before finishing work duties and denied wages for training.
