BRONX, N.Y. — More than 200 youth wrestlers from the five boroughs braved the snow and slippery conditions and showed up at Truman High School for the Beat the Streets NYC Youth Championships on Sunday.

The tourney saw grapplers compete in three divisions — Boys Standard, Boys Novice and Girls.

Students from five Island middle schools captured a slew of medals with Markham Intermediate School taking second place overall in the Boys Standard team standings.

Beat the Streets is a private organization that works with middle school and high school students to develop the sport of wrestling nationwide. They provide the practice wrestling mats, tournaments, competitions and development of the athletes and coaches.

The Markham school had and Island-high 22 wrestlers compete, while IS 75 and IS 24 sent out seven and five grapplers, respectively. Tottenville/South Richmond Wrestling team had four wrestlers compete.

Markham produced three city champions in the Standard division as Jonaire Thomas (120), Hunter Haig (130) and Edwin Jurado (200) mined gold. Runners-up were Adyen Orlando (160) and Edward EJ Medina (110).

Noah Baker (145) and Andreas Valentin (110) placed third, while Liam Watts (100) took fourth.

In the Novice division, Ibriham Judino (65) was crowned the city champ, while Mason Ortiz (160) placed second and Jeremiah Abdul (160) third.

IS 24 produced a champion in Lusufsho Lukabov (100 pounds in the Novice division), while Joseph Sinnott (105) took third in the Standard division.

Meanwhile, Celine Elliot, representing Tottenville/South Richmond Wrestling, captured first in the Girls’ 105-pound division.

IS 75 also had a strong showing with Caelyn Kotula (106) placing fourth in the Girls division; Kylie Rivera (128) fifth in the Girls division; Jordan Shaaraway (75) fifth in the Boys Novice; Alexander Alfonzo (78) third in the Boys Novice and Damon Delaney (75) third in the Boys Novice.
