A top MAGA voice who was once closely allied with President Donald Trump told CNN that the “dam is breaking” with Trump and the Republican Party.
GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia said Trump has “real problems” with the GOP right now and that the “dam is breaking” in terms of the president’s ability to hold onto Republican support.
She said that things are so dire that she doesn’t think that the Republican Party will win the 2026 midterm elections, per the Washington Post.
“I think the midterms are going to be very hard for Republicans,” Greene told Kaitlin Collins on “The Source.”
Greene said, “I’m one of the people that’s willing to admit the truth and say I don’t see Republicans winning the midterms right now.”
Greene had been a close ally of Trump but the two fell out after Greene broke with Republicans on a number of issues, including the Jeffrey Epstein files.
Trump called Greene a “traitor” and withdrew his endorsement of her. Green has announced that she will resign from Congress as of Jan. 5, 2026.
Greene, who described herself as a “bellwether” of feelings in the MAGA movement, said of Trump: “He’s got real problems with Republicans within the House and the Senate that will be breaking with him on more things to come.”
She said that Trump supporters “didn’t appreciate” the president’s reaction to the death of director Rob Reiner, who was found stabbed to death with his wife, photographer Michele Singer Reiner, in their Los Angeles home Sunday.
Trump said that Reiner’s “Trump Derangement Syndrome” was at the root of Reiner’s killing.
The Reiners’ son, Nick, has been arrested in the murders.
Reiner had been an outspoken critic of Trump.
“I thought that statement was absolutely, completely below the office of the President of the United States,” Greene told CNN. “Classless and it was just wrong.”
