NEW YORK (PIX11) — Parts of New York City and New Jersey were placed under a coastal flood advisory as an incoming storm was expected to bring hazardous weather to the Friday morning commute, according to the National Weather Service.

The flood advisory will be in effect from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday for parts of Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, Nassau and Suffolk Counties, and New Jersey.

Areas under the advisory could get up to one-half foot of inundation, particularly areas near the waterfront and shoreline, forecasters from the National Weather Service said. Some roads, parking lots, parks, lawns, and homes and businesses with basements near the waterfront could experience minor flooding.

Residents who might be traveling and commuting in the morning are advised to allow extra time for travel.

According to the National Weather Service, rain is expected to begin around 1 a.m. on Friday and will likely continue through 4 p.m. with a chance of light snow showers possible afterwards.
