NEW YORK (PIX11) – The New York City region is expected to see a period of heavy rain, damaging winds, and minor coastal flooding, according to the National Weather Service.

A strong frontal system is expected to bring the nasty weather, starting late Thursday night and continuing into Friday night.

Strong winds are expected to down scattered tree limbs and could damage unsecured objects and decorations; a few power lines could be brought down, according to the forecast.

The New York City and New Jersey area could see up to 2 inches of rain.

The area could see minor flooding as a result of the rain in locations with poor drainage.
