Major windstorms this weekend across New York State could lead to mutilple Power outages across the state.

A massive storm sweeping in from the West is going to bring rain, sleet, snow, and heavy winds to parts of New York through the weekend.

So what should you do if you lose power this weekend?

5 Things To Do If You Lose Power

Find a source of light: You should make sure you have a flashlight or a light from your smartphone. Try to avoid candles is possible due to the chance of starting a fire.

Check Out Widespread Outage: Look around your neighborhood and see if the outage is widespread or just isolated to your home. If it is just your home, check your electrical box; if widespread, contact your utility provider.

Make Sure To Unplug Electronics: Go around your home and unplug computers, TVs, and appliances to protect them from power surges when your electricity returns.

Keep Your Food Cold: Try to keep the doors to your fridge and freezers closed. This will help keep your food cold and prolong the time it takes to spoil.

Be Safe Using Generators: If you have a gas-powered generator for your home, make sure to operate it in a safe manner and in an open space. Do not run it inside your garage.
