Strong winds and drenching rain have descended on New York City, raising the risk of power outages and coastal flooding as the biggest US city prepares for the holiday weekend.
The National Weather Service is warning of wind gusts reaching 60 miles per hour (96 kilometer per hour) early Friday, with a wind advisory in place through midnight and heavy rain expected throughout the day.
