Kentucky’s Brooklyn DeLeye has played majority of season with torn meniscus

  • December 21, 2025

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Kentucky volleyball junior Brooklyn DeLeye has been one of the constants in the Wildcats’ run to the national championship match.

She has done so all season while playing with a torn meniscus in her left knee, a fact DeLeye’s parents revealed to 13 SPORTS on Saturday morning.

DeLeye suffered the injury early in the season against Nebraska in Nashville during a five-set match that ended in a reverse sweep.

“A lot of people don’t realize it. Think about the numbers she’s putting up being in pain the whole season and what it would be like if she wasn’t in pain this year,” DeLeye’s father, John, said Saturday morning.

“She didn’t want to get the surgery that would put her out for four weeks,” he continued. She has a high pain tolerance and she has a high commitment to this team.”

DeLeye is scheduled to undergo surgery after the season ends. Her parents say part of the decision to push back the procedure is that she tore the meniscus in her right knee as a junior in high school and is familiar with the recovery process.

“With how successful her surgery was with her other knee, I think she’s very confident once the season is over getting that surgery, doing the four weeks recovery. She’ll be good as she was before, if not better,” John DeLeye said.

Kentucky will face Texas A&M on Sunday in the national championship game in Kansas City.

First serve is set for 2:30 p.m.

There will be a watch party at The Pennant in downtown Topeka.
