STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Staten Island’s three Community Boards will hold public meetings next week, with votes taking place on issues from liquor license applications and home improvement variances to the controversial Universal Daylighting Bill and the modernizing of the City Map.
The Universal Daylighting Bill has drawn a mix of praise and condemnation from Staten Islanders since its proposal. The legislation would remove parking spaces near intersections throughout New York City in an effort to improve safety for pedestrians and motorists by improving visibility for both.
Opponents cite the cost of already minimal parking spaces on Staten Island, where residents rely on cars more than residents of other boroughs.
Modernizing the City Map would digitalize the City Map, stripping the borough presidents of direct control.
