1. Onondaga, Madison Co. towns asked to conserve water
They include the towns of Manlius, Pompey, DeWitt, Sullivan, Lenox and Lincoln. DeWitt’s conservation includes residents served by the DeWitt water system; the villages of Canastota, Chittenango, Fayetteville, Manlius and Minoa are also included. Residents in this area must only use water when necessary.
2. 2 RPD officers, 1 civilian remain hospitalized, suspect dead after shooting during domestic incident
During a news conference on Monday, RPD Chief David Smith said two officers are still being treated at Strong Memorial Hospital after undergoing multiple surgeries over the weekend. Those officers have been with the department for seven years each, Smith says.
3. New York minimum wage increasing again starting Jan. 1, 2026
The state’s minimum wage will increase from $16.50 an hour to $17 per hour in New York City, Long Island and Westchester County. For the rest of the state, it will increase from $15.50 to $16 an hour.
4. Hochul signs bills into law to regulate kratom drug products in New York
Kratom is a leaf that naturally occurs in Southeast Asia that has mild sedative effects when chewed. But there’s concern when kratom is developed into powder, gummies or other products, it’s often no longer safe and poses serious health risks. Several New Yorkers have died in the last few years after consuming kratom products.
5. Girl Scout’s project raises awareness of postpartum hemorrhage
Former Girl Scout Aanya Verma focused on women’s health for her Gold Award project. Her goal was to bring more information to pregnant people to prevent postpartum hemorrhage.
6. ’60 Minutes’ story critical of Trump deportation policy is pulled from lineup
Two hours before airtime Sunday, CBS announced that the story where correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi spoke to deportees who had been sent to El Salvador’s notorious CECOT prison would not be a part of the show. Bari Weiss, the Free Press founder named CBS News editor-in-chief in October, said it was her decision.
