Leslie Paul Gertner, 101, a long-time Staten Islander known as the “Mayor of New Dorp,” died on Dec. 19. Born in Manhattan on Sept. 12, 1924, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a radar specialist. Mr. Gertner worked for the A&P company for 50 years, meeting his wife Inez while at the New Dorp store. They were married from 1951 until her death in 2005.
