It won’t be a white Christmas. But it will be a white weekend — at least around here.
There is increasing confidence in accumulating snow for the tri-state area Friday into Saturday, with models forecasting at least 3 inches for the immediate New York City area and more elsewhere.
Spots north and west of the five boroughs, including northeastern New Jersey, the Lower Hudson Valley, and southwestern Connecticut, may see up to 8 inches of snow. Those areas should at least get 5 inches.
Projected snow totals are preliminary and will likely change, depending on storm track and other factors.

Snow could start falling around 6 p.m. Friday, but the chances kick up in earnest overnight. Expect the bulk of it to come between midnight and 6 a.m. Saturday, setting the stage for some messy post-Christmas travel.
The system is expected to taper off in the afternoon.

Light snow or a wintry mix is possible again Saturday night into Sunday. Precipitation is expected to transition to rain Sunday before colder air returns.
It’ll be bitterly cold to start the new year.
