Manhattan High volleyball continued its strong late-season push, bouncing back from a hard-fought loss to Blue Valley West with a dominant showing at its home invitational to improve to 23-8 overall.
The Indians opened the week with a competitive three-set match against perennial power Blue Valley West on Monday, falling 25-22, 26-24, 25-22. Despite the sweep, Manhattan stayed within striking distance throughout, showing the consistency and competitiveness that have fueled its climb up the Class 6A West standings.
Manhattan carried that momentum into Saturday’s Manhattan Invitational, finishing 4-1 on the day to place second. The Indians swept Shawnee Heights (25-17, 25-16), Olathe East (25-18, 25-15), Derby (25-16, 25-23) and Junction City (25-9, 25-13), with their only loss coming to first-place Washburn Rural (25-19, 25-21).
Head coach Nicole Jones praised the team’s effort and mindset as the postseason approaches.
“Proud of the way the girls competed and finished strong,” Jones said. “As we look ahead to Senior Night, we have a tough matchup against Maize South and Salina South. Our focus will be on minimizing errors and, of course, celebrating our three amazing seniors. We are focused on putting ourselves in the best position for sub-state.”
The Indians have now won 15 of their last 19 matches and remain among the top four programs in the 6A West standings heading into the final week of the regular season.
Up next, Manhattan hosts Maize South and Salina South on Thursday for Senior Night at MHS.
