NEW YORK (PIX11) — Christmas Day in the city doesn’t always have to look like a scene from a movie.
People are still on the move around the region. Transit workers, first responders, and emergency crews are on the job.
PIX11 News spoke to people on the holiday and found folks on a mission.
At Rose & Joe’s Bakery on 31st Street in Astoria, people stop in and find Santa Bread.
”We do a turkey at Thanksgiving. I’d say it’s four or five loaves of bread,” said Joe Porretto, with the third-generation family business.
At the Ditmars Station on the bakery block, riders were out and about for all kinds of reasons. Hugo says he will be wearing the Santa hat for a few more days.
Decorations blink from buildings as a slower-paced crowd moves. FDNY firefighters rolled on the avenue with holiday lights on the truck.
Along Third Avenue in Manhattan, pizza is perfect for a holiday dinner and lunch break.
As Christmas night falls, talk turns to leftovers and the weather headed in on Friday.
