NEW YORK (PIX11) – New Yorkers, you’re going to want to move your cars as the DSNY starts preparing the roads for snow.
The agency issued a snow alert on Friday that started at 1 p.m. Crews will take to the streets with salt spreaders and plows to try to mitigate snow removal efforts.
A winter storm could bring up to 10 inches of snow to the tri-state area, according to PIX11 meteorologists. A winter weather warning will go into effect for New York City, Long Island, Westchester and New Jersey.
Snow could fall at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour, according to the National Weather Service.
The MTA also announced it’s taking precautions ahead of the snow. The agency has sent out additional workers to spread salt, clear surfaces of snow, and handle any snow-related challenges.

Commuters and straphangers should be prepared for possible service delays and plan for extra travel time.
On Long Island, over 70 plows and 100 pieces of equipment will be utilized by Nassau County to keep highways clear. PSEG Long Island also warned customers of potential power outages.
