I realize we haven’t even gone trick-or-treating yet, so it might be a bit early to be talking about our local area ski slopes, but it is never too early to be looking at safety on the slopes. We have some amazing ski slopes in the Hudson Valley, and safety is top of mind for them all year long.
Rock Hill Fire Department Attends Chairlift Drill at Holiday Mountain
Another group of people who keep ski slope safety on their list are the first responders who have slopes in their area of coverage. When we think about emergencies and first responder training in the Hudson Valley and the Catskills, we probably think about vehicle accidents, hiking mishaps, and water rescues, but what about recreation rescues?
Not only do ski slopes in our area need to be prepared for many types of emergencies, but the firefighters and EMS in the area need to be prepared as well. Many different things can happen at a ski slope. The usual bumps and bruises from a typical ski accident might come to mind first, but what about the chairlift?

That is where training like the kind the Rock Hill Fire Department just did comes into play. They shared on their Facebook page some photos of a recent trip to Holiday Mountain to practice rescuing people from a stopped chairlift.
