Light-wood beams and exposed duct work segment the ceiling of an open-concept living space — the kitchen bleeds into the living room — in Baldwin Harbor.
The four-bedroom, 3½-bathroom house on a canal is on the market for nearly $1.5 million. Taxes on the 0.11-acre Hastings Circle property, which falls within the Baldwin Union Free School District, total $16,554.

Over the past three years or so, said listing agent Matthew Korman, of Douglas Elliman, the homeowners’ design decisions have produced a renovated home with a “Brooklyn loft vibe.”
“Pretty much the whole house was gutted,” said Korman said.

Wooden details, including fan blades and custom millwork, carry the material throughout the home, Korman noted. Stone tile, rectangular and hexagonal, accents the walls. Functional updates have included the roof, heating, plumbing and electrical systems, the kitchen and the bathrooms, Korman said.
“The primary bathroom is like being at the W hotel,” he said. “It’s stunning.”

Korman described the home as one with two places to live. There are bathrooms and laundry machines both upstairs and downstairs, he said. Downstairs, there is an additional kitchen and living room.
Outside, there are three tiers of Trex decking, Korman said. A spiral staircase takes visitors from the kitchen-adjacent upper deck to the middle deck, and wooden steps lead from the middle deck to the lowest level.

From there, the deck leads to a dock and bulkhead, which are part of the property and the owner’s responsibility, Korman said.
“It’s a coastal contemporary lifestyle,” he said.
