1. Flu cases surge to record levels across New York state
New York is experiencing its worst flu week on record, with more than 71,000 positive cases reported statewide — a 38% jump from the week before, according to the Department of Health.
Officials say the surge is being driven by the H3 subtype of influenza A, which is often linked to more severe seasons. Hospitalizations have already surpassed last year’s peak, with children under 18 visiting ERs at the highest rate.
