SAUGERTIES — Fourteen people were transported to nearby hospitals after a commercial passenger van rolled over and careened off the Thruway early Saturday morning, State Police said.
Shortly before 4 a.m., a 65-year-old man from Winchester, Va., was driving the van northbound on the Thruway when the vehicle left the roadway and rolled over off the right shoulder in the town of Saugerties, according to a news release from State Police.
The vehicle, a 2016 Ford Transit livery van, was carrying 14 adults, including the driver, according to State Police. All 14 occupants were transported to either Kingston Hospital or Northern Dutchess Hospital for evaluation. The driver was not injured, and all other reported injuries were minor, State Police said.
State Police said the cause of the crash “appears to be driver inattention.”
State Police issued the driver uniform traffic tickets, including unreasonable and imprudent speed, lane violation and use of a portable electronic device while operating a motor vehicle.
Police said their investigation into the crash is ongoing.
