WILLIAMSBURG — GROCERY STORE AND restaurant Mekelburg’s, known for its gourmet foods and community events, will close its remaining location on Kent Avenue on Jan. 1 after a decade of serving Brooklyn communities, the business announced on Instagram.
In a farewell message, the team thanked customers for “Ten years of feeding people we love. Ten years of regulars who became family, neighbors who became friends, and first-timers who somehow always found their way back.”
Mekelburg’s original Clinton Hill location opened in 2015, building a loyal following before shuttering last year, according to Greenpointers. The Kent Avenue store launched in 2022. The closure represents another loss for the Kent Avenue dining corridor, which has seen steady turnover as rents and operating costs continue to pressure independent food businesses across North Brooklyn.
The Jan. 1 closure will also affect the neighboring vegan café Guevara’s, owned by Alicia Guevara, wife of founder Daniel Mekelburg.
