MT. HOPE, the Bronx (PIX11) — A man was fatally shot in the head in a car in the Bronx on New Year’s Day, making the first homicide of the year, police said.
Authorities found the 55-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds to the head inside the car near the Cross Bronx Expressway and Morris Avenue just before 7 a.m., according to the NYPD. He died at the scene.
The victim was in a blue Toyota SUV with Taxi & Limousine Commission plates, but it was unclear if he was a rideshare driver, police said. The man has not been identified.
The vehicle was found parked sideways in the middle of the road with a flat rear tire, according to video footage from the scene. The Toyota was positioned with its hood pressed against a parked white car nearby.
There have been no arrests, and the investigation is ongoing.
The incident is the first homicide of 2026 in New York City, police said.
