CITYWIDE – NEW MAYOR ZOHRAN Mamdani chose to make housing affordability, a key plank of his campaign, the focus of his first day in office on Thursday, reports ABC News 7.

Mamdani signed three executive orders related to housing: one reviving the Mayor’s Office to Protect Tenants, which will be led by tenant advocate Cea Weaver; and two establishing task forces to identify city-owned land that’s ripe for development and to cut unnecessary development-related regulations. The mayor also stated his intention to intervene in the ongoing bankruptcy case of Pinnacle Realty, an accused negligent landlord, on behalf of tenants.

Mamdani made the announcements at 85 Clarkson Ave. in Brooklyn, a Pinnacle-owned building where residents are organizing a rent strike.
