1. McDermott: Josh Allen will play Sunday against the New York Jets

Quarterback Josh Allen, who is battling foot and ankle injuries, will play Sunday against the New York Jets in the Buffalo Bills’ final game of the regular season, head coach Sean McDermott said.

2. Enhanced law enforcement, security presence expected at Highmark Stadium Sunday

Buffalo Bills fans heading out to Orchard Park on Sunday for the final home game of the season at Highmark Stadium can expect to see additional law enforcement and security personnel, Erie County Sheriff John C. Garcia announced Friday.

3. Orchard Park awarded funding to develop Bills Stadium Safe Streets Action Plan

The Bills Stadium Safe Streets Action Plan is a comprehensive safety action plan focused on improving pedestrian, bicycle and motorist safety in the area surrounding the new Highmark Stadium. It will seek to assess existing conditions and recommend targeted infrastructure improvements, including wider sidewalks, upgraded curb ramps, and enhanced crosswalks, with an emphasis on reducing fatal and serious-injury crashes.

4. Special election to fill Sean Ryan’s state Senate seat set for Feb. 3

A special election to fill Sean Ryan’s seat in the New York state Senate will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 3, Gov. Kathy Hochul’s office announced Friday. Ryan vacated the seat officially this week after being sworn in as the new mayor of Buffalo on Thursday. Ryan represented the 61st state Senate District since 2021 after serving 10 years in the state Assembly.

5. Allen Burger Venture to shut down at end of January

In a social media post, the owners said they made the decision to close after Jan. 31 due to the ongoing challenges of operating a small, independent restaurant.

6. Hochul: Average N.Y. health insurance premiums increasing 38% after ACA subsidies expire

Health insurance premiums for New York couples receiving subsidies are increasing by an average 38% a month due to the lapse of Affordable Care Act tax credits that expired on Dec. 31, Gov. Kathy Hochul’s office said Friday. The governor said about 140,000 New Yorkers will face steep health care costs as early as this week.

Sabres’ Thompson, Dahlin, Luukkonen named to Olympic rosters

Buffalo Sabres forward Tage Thompson was named to Team USA’s Olympic roster on Friday.

Thompson leads the Sabres in goals (20) and points (37) this season. His 178 goals since the 2021-22 season began ranks 10th among NHL players.
