BROOKLYN — BROOKLYN ENDED 2025 with the fewest murders, shootings, shooting victims, and shooting homicides ever recorded, according to new figures released by District Attorney Eric Gonzalez, extending a five-year downward trend in gun violence across the borough.
Homicides fell 24% to 91, the lowest total on record, while shooting homicides dropped 25% to 47. Shooting incidents declined 15% to 244, and shooting victims fell 11% to 307, all improving on record lows set in 2024. Since peaking in 2020, homicides are down 48% and shootings more than 60%.
Gun violence dropped most sharply in and around public housing developments, with homicides down 41%. Brownsville posted the largest homicide decline, falling 67%, while several precincts, including Bay Ridge and Greenpoint, recorded no murders all year.
Gonzalez credited sustained enforcement, community partnerships and prevention programs, noting Brooklyn was the only borough where all major gun-violence indicators declined every year over the past five years.
