PHOTOS: The Brooklyn Center Fire Department says it took several hours and tens of thousands of gallons of water to put out an electric vehicle fire. Just before 11 p.m. on Tuesday, crews were called to an electric vehicle fire that broke out at the Winner Gas Station located at 6501 N Humboldt Avenue. According to a social media post by the department, the car was parked next to the gas pumps while the driver was inside the gas station.

“A quick-thinking Brooklyn Center police officer used their squad to push the vehicle away from the fuel pumps and into the open parking lot,” the post details. When firefighters arrived on scene, they used several specialized pieces of equipment to control the fire and put out the flames.

A “turtle” was used to cool the battery, a device that hooks onto a fire hose and sprays water onto the undercarriage of the car to cool things down. Once that was in use, crews threw a fire blanket over the car to control vapors and smoke.
