STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Sunday’s 19th annual Coaches Choice USA Staten Island vs. New Jersey Challenge will showcase five games at Moore Catholic in Graniteville.
But there’s an added twist this season as the second game, which pits Staten Island Academy against Bound Brook, will feature head coaches who are former Jaques Award winners. To boot, both former Island stars played for the now-defunct St. Peter’s Girls High School.
Sandy Litkenhaus, who won the Jaques following the 1986-87 season, is in her first year coaching SIA. Jen Derenjanik, one of only two three-time Jaques winners (1998-2000), is in her 12th season guiding Bound Brook.
Sunday’s event was once again made possible with the help of former Islander and St. John Villa varsity coach James Martinos.
Sunday’s match-ups include: Tottenville vs. Spotswood, 11 a.m.; SIA vs. Bound Brook, 12:30 p.m.; Notre Dame Academy vs. Mount St. Mary, 2:05 p.m.; St. Joseph by-the-Sea vs. East Brunswick, 3:45 p.m.; Moore Catholic vs. Snyder, 5:20 p.m.
