QUEEN CREEK (AZFamily) — A Queen Creek family is asking for the community’s help after a masked burglar broke into their home on New Year’s Eve while they attended a party.
Sarah Beth Herman said she and her husband were at a New Year’s Eve party Wednesday evening when the break-in occurred at their home.
“We were terrified watching the video of someone entering our home,” Herman said.
Security camera footage from about 6:30 p.m. shows a masked man hopping a fence into the backyard, walking to the back door, then smashing a window as glass shatters everywhere.
“You see the glass fall. It falls on top of my dog. He runs. There’s glass everywhere,” Herman said.
The video shows the burglar ransacking the home in just a few minutes, running to the couple’s closet and stuffing items into a bag.
“In four minutes, he terrorized our home, stole from us and damaged property,” Herman said. “Somebody completely violated our home. They came in with ill intentions, seeking to harm whoever was inside.”
The burglary caused physical damage to the house and emotional trauma to the family and their dogs, Herman said.
The suspect seen in the video remains at large. The homeowners are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Queen Creek Police Department.
Police said there was another burglary a few blocks away the previous week. They did not immediately respond to requests for comment on whether the cases are related.
“This needs to be a safe community, and we need to find justice here,” Herman said.
