STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Emergency personnel rushed to the scene of a multi-vehicle crash that occurred around 5 p.m. Sunday evening on the upper Brooklyn-bound level of the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge.

According to an NYPD spokesperson, the incident involved two vehicles and there were no injuries. An MTA spokesperson confirmed that FDNY/EMS and the NYPD shut down two lanes, significantly slowing traffic on the upper level of the span.

Traffic has slowed to a crawl along the eastbound side of the Staten Island Expressway as police and fire officials investigate the crash, according to emergency transmissions and NY511.

According to the MTA spokesperson, both upper level lanes of the Verrazzano were eventually reopened just before 6 p.m., with traffic flowing as normal on the Brooklyn-bound side.
