STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — There were three reported vehicle thefts during the week of Dec. 22 through Dec. 28, according to NYPD data.

Despite the number, the amount of automobile thefts reported in the borough this year has gone down.

Car thefts reported through Dec. 28 dropped 28% (239 vs. 333) when compared to the same period in 2024, according to the NYPD’s latest CompStat figures.

Car thefts in the borough haven’t been this low since 2022.

The database indicates that three cars were stolen on Staten Island between Dec. 22 and Dec. 28, the most recent week for which statistics are available.

Here’s a look at those incidents:

On Dec. 22, at 9 p.m., a car theft was reported on Bay and Congress streets in Stapleton.On Dec. 25, at 5 a.m., a car theft was reported at Anderson Street and Clifton Avenue in Rosebank.On Dec. 27, at 3 a.m., a car theft was reported on Rockland Avenue and Forest Hill Road in New Springville.

Beginning in late Summer 2023, the NYPD enacted a tactical shift aimed at curbing car thefts. In developing an intricate, multi-agency system to gather and analyze intelligence, law enforcement officials were able to quell the surge of grand larceny auto cases taking place at the time, according to the NYPD.
