When recently asked about New York State Gov. Kathy Hochul’s position on Whitney Park, the 36,600 Adirondack property currently in the process of being purchased by a Texas developer, spokesman Ken Lovett said the governor “remains committed to preserving the land’s most vital natural resources, ensuring habitat connectivity, and creating recreational corridors for everyone’s benefit.

“This includes providing the public with access to the forest preserve, benefiting both the local community and all New Yorkers.”

On Oct. 8, the Explorer learned the governor is actively negotiating with Todd Interests to acquire 32,000 acres of the property to add to the Adirondack Forest Preserve.
