There could be a brand new law coming to New York State in 2026 if it gets approved. The idea is that all alcoholic drinks that are served at a bar would come with a lid. If drinks came with a lid when served at a bar then that would greatly reduce the risk and chance for people to get their drinks spiked unknowingly at bars when going out.

An Erie county legislator has proposed the law for 2026 and wants to become a New York law. Erie County Legislator Taisha St. Jean has proposed that bars and restaurants use a lid when serving alcoholic drinks.

One bar In New York State has already started using lids when serving alcoholic drinks.

On the east side of New York State there was a bar a few years back that decided to make a change at their bar. One woman took the social media to say that she was roofied at the bar one night after going out with some friends. She deleted the post but the bar owner over in Staten Island where the incident occurred took action very quickly–They decided that during the nightlife hours they would put lids on all alcoholic drinks. The first major concern that people and customers brought up was will this be happening during the day when people want to go for lunch or a dinner when there are more calm hours. The answer was no that the restriction and the lids only happen during the night time. What about bottled beer? Of course bottled beer was not capped with a lid.
