STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Authorities are investigating after the body of a man was found in the water near the Outerbridge Crossing on Monday morning.
Delays due to police activity were reported on the span early in the morning rush hour, according to an alert from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
Officers with the Port Authority Police Department responded to the Staten Island-bound Outerbridge Crossing at about 4:30 a.m., according to a spokeswoman.
The initial report was of a disabled vehicle on the span. When officers arrived, the vehicle was unoccupied.
After a canvass of the bridge and surrounding area, officers saw the body of an unidentified male floating in the water, the spokeswoman said.
The Perth Amboy Police Department, EMS, and the Middlesex County Medical Examiner also responded.
An investigation into the incident is underway, according to the Port Authority spokeswoman.
