A 50-year-old man has died following a workplace explosion in Orange County, NY.

According to the Town of Montgomery Police Department, one man has tragically passed away after an explosion at a popular scrap yard in Walden, NY.

According to police, Orange County 911 received a call on Wednesday, October 15th, 2025, around 10:30 a.m. stating that there was an explosion with injuries at the ASAP scrap yard located at 2780 State Route 208, in Walden, NY.

At approximately 10:40 a.m., the Town of Montgomery Police Department dispatched officers to the scene to investigate.

Upon arrival, officers, along with the Walden Fire Department, didn’t find any signs of a fire but did make a tragic discovery.

Police reported that they located a deceased male at the scene who appeared to have died from injuries suffered from the explosion.

Police didn’t identify the man by name, but did say he was a 50-year-old man who resided in Middletown, NY. The man was reportedly an employee at the scrap yard who was working with a cutting torch when the explosion occurred.

Police didn’t reveal any other details but did say that the incident is under investigation. Montgomery Police were assisted at the scene by the Walden Fire Department, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, and the New York State Police.
