The 2025 NFL regular season is over, and the New York Giants, after finishing 4-13, will be undergoing another major upheaval this offseason.
They won’t be looking for a new head of football operations as general manager Joe Schoen appears to be safe, but they will be hiring a new head coach. Brian Daboll was fired after 10 games this year and replaced with offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, who went 2-5 in his seven-game audition.
Kafka will receive an interview for the position, but Schoen plans to conduct an extensive search for the next head coach. The list appears to get longer with each passing day.
There’s one name that has bubbled up to the top over the past few days is Denver Broncos offensive passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach Davis Webb.
If that name sounds familiar, it should. Webb was a third-round pick of the Giants back in 2017 and served as a backup quarterback for a season. After spending time with the Jets and Buffalo Bills, Webb returned to the Giants in 2022, where he started one game for Big Blue before retiring as a player.

Webb, the son of a high school football coach in Texas, was always considered a coach-in-waiting. In 2023, Sean Payton hired him to become the Broncos’ quarterbacks coach. Webb was elevated to passing game coordinator this season.
Webb, 30, has a rich history going back to his college days at Texas Tech, where he shared the quarterback room with two very prominent names under head coach Kliff Kingsbury.
From Heavy.com:
Webb has an interesting history with 2 of the NFL’s highest profile players in Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and 2-time NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes and Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback and 2-time Pro Bowler Baker Mayfield.
In college, Webb went back and forth as the starting quarterback with Mayfield during his freshman year before Mayfield transferred to Oklahoma.
After 2 years as the starter, Webb found himself replaced by Mahomes, with Webb transferring to Cal for his final college season.
The choice to move to Cal was a good one for Webb. He tossed for 4,295 yards and 37 touchdowns with 13 interceptions. That led him to be selected in the third round (No. 82 overall) of the 2017Â NFLÂ draft by the Giants.
Webb could be a bit too young and green for this Giants team. He would be younger than nine of the players on the roster, but would not be the youngest head coach in NFL history. That record would still be held by the Los Angeles Rams’ Sean McVay (30 years, 11 months).
Webb will be a head coach in this league before long. The question now is, will the Giants consider him a serious candidate? His age is working against him, as is his lack of coordinator experience. Let’s face it, he will be up against a very deep and experienced group of potential candidates.
The positives are that the Giants are very familiar with him, as is Schoen, who was the assistant GM in Buffalo when Webb was a backup quarterback there.
Another hurdle is that the Broncos, Webb’s current team, are the top seed in the AFC this postseason. The Giants can only hold a virtual interview with Webb, beginning this week, but will be restricted from hiring him until after Denver’s season ends. If that is the Super Bowl, the Giants may not want to wait that long.
