NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) – The warning period is over – drivers who block bus lanes on these four routes will now face fines up to $250.
Automated cameras have already started monitoring the Bx9, Bx15, B11 and B63 bus routes. They ticket drivers who double park or otherwise block bus lanes and stops.
Violations have only resulted in warnings. But starting Friday, these tickets will come with a $50 fine for a first infraction. Repeat offenders will face tickets of up to $250. Across the city, dozens of bus routes have already started charging fines.
The cameras have been added to over 1,400 buses across 54 routes, fining drivers who slow down the bus system. Bus speeds have improved on routes with fines, according to the MTA.
