Back in 2024, New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced the launch of the “25 Million Trees by 2033” initiative, which recognizes the importance of trees and forests for climate mitigation and community health across New York.

At the time, Gov. Hochul, along with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), encouraged all New Yorkers who plant trees to record them via its “Tree Tracker,” hoping to reach the goal of 25 million trees by 2033.

To help New Yorkers participate in the initiative, the DEC has announced that the Colonel William F. Fox Memorial Saratoga Tree Nursery has launched its annual spring seedling sale.

The nursery, located at 2369 Route 50 in Saratoga Springs, NY, is now offering dozens of New York-grown trees and shrubs for a great price through May 13th, 2025.

Currently, the nursery has seedlings available for public and private plantings in New York State and bordering states. This year, they will offer bareroot stock conifers, including eastern red cedar, northern white cedar, douglas fir, Jack, red pine, and white pine, as well as Norway and white spruce.

If you are interested in bareroot stock shrubs and small trees for wildlife habitat, they have speckled alder, arrowwood, northern bayberry, buttonbush, sand cherry, and many more. You can see the full list of available tree and shrub species online here.

Some of the species sell out quickly, so if you are interested in purchasing, DEC recommends doing so now.

How to Order

All orders must be placed by phone by calling 518-587-1120 during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Orders are filled in the order they are received.

Once the order is placed, an invoice will be sent via mail or email. The invoice must be signed and returned within 10 days, along with a check or money order.
