B11 and B63 buses now equipped with automatic cameras

BOROUGHWIDE — THE MTA IS ADDING TWO BROOKLYN BUS ROUTES TO ITS AUTOMATED CAMERA ENFORCEMENT (ACE) PROGRAM, with fines being imposed starting on Friday, Jan. 9.

The B11, which runs between Sunset Park and Midwood, and the B63, which runs from Atlantic Avenue in Downtown Brooklyn to Bay Ridge, are the two latest routes to join the program, plus two in the Bronx whose buses are now ACE-equipped. They are part of the 54 routes currently enforced, with more than 1,400 buses now ACE equipped, covering 560 miles of routes and benefiting over 980,000 daily customers.

The equipment monitors vehicles improperly using busways and bus lanes, blocking bus stops, or that are illegally double-parked. Motorists in violation will receive summonses starting at $50 and escalating to $250 for repeat offenses. Once violations are captured by cameras on multiple buses, the resulting video, images, license plate information, location and time stamp details are then securely transmitted to the city Department of Transportation for review and processing.

The ACE program is administered in partnership with the New York City Department of Transportation and the New York City Department of Finance.
