A woman in Minneapolis was shot and killed by federal immigration officers after she attempted to mow them down with her vehicle in what ICE is calling an “act of domestic terrorism.”

The gunfire rang out at East 34th Street and Portland Avenue on Wednesday morning, according to an X post from the City of Minneapolis.

Video at the scene showed a large group of protesters shouting anti-ICE slogans behind yellow police tape, some pelting officers with snowballs.

“Today, ICE officers in Minneapolis were conducting targeted operations when rioters began blocking ICE officers and one of these violent rioters weaponized her vehicle, attempting to run over our law enforcement officers in an attempt to kill them — an act of domestic terrorism,” DHS assistant secretary for public affairs Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement.

“An ICE officer, fearing for his life, the lives of his fellow law enforcement and the safety of the public, fired defensive shots. He used his training and saved his own life and that of his fellow officers.”

The incident comes amid the largest-scale deployment of immigration enforcement agents to Minneapolis since the start of the second Trump administration.

Minneapolis Council Member Jason Chavez said on social media platform Bluesky that Border Patrol Chief Gregory Bovino had responded to the scene.

Video livestreamed from the scene by Fox 9 shows agents standing side by side on the street, with throngs of protesters filming the scene with their phones, some cursing at the agents.

The video also shows three vehicles, a plum-colored SUV, a white sedan and a sporty dark-red car, that look to have been involved in a three-car collision.

The front end of the white car appears badly smashed in as police and FBI agents circle the derelict vehicle.

Photos captured by photographers at the scene show some protesters winding up to throw snowballs at agents, while another shows a police officer pepper-spraying a small group linking arms to block the roadway.

“Get the f—k out of our city! We’re not scared of you!” one person could be heard shouting.

“This is an evolving situation, and we will give the public more information as soon as it becomes available,” McLaughlin said.
