BROOKLYN, Ohio — Brooklyn City School annually celebrates fathers and father-figures with its My Guy Walk, which took place Oct. 9 before school.
“The My Guy Walk is part of our ‘Walk, Bike & Roll to School’ initiative that celebrates male role models in our students’ lives,” Brooklyn City Schools Intervention Specialist Suzy Marquis said.
“Participants walk their child to school together, enjoy light refreshments courtesy of Brooklyn PTA and take part in a shared literacy moment that highlights the importance of reading at home with free books handed out.”

“A few minutes of connection in the morning or a few pages of reading together in the evening can build lifelong habits of love, literacy and learning.”
That’s why the district is also looking ahead to its next community-building event, Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day on Nov. 14.
“Through a grant from the Safe Routes to School partnership, we’ll be joining schools across the country in honoring Ruby Bridges’ historic walk into school,” she said.
“This walk teaches students about courage, inclusion and standing up for what’s right.”
