WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – Zoo New York officials are thrilled by possible record setting attendance at their annual Boo at the Zoo event.
Held at the Thompson Park Zoo, this spooky event saw the various pens and buildings in Halloween themed getup; a look that lots of people came out to see while receiving candy and marveling at the animals.
Mark Irwin, the Zoo’s Interim Director, says over the weekend the zoo had at least 1,300 visitors. Irwin says it’s usually their biggest event year after year, but this year may have been their biggest so far.
Irwin hopes the attendance momentum from this weekend continues.
“Our whole team we look forward to this and it’s a chance to showcase the zoo in a really fun, kooky spooky kind of way,“ said Irwin. ”I hope we get some momentum that continues on to the future and we’re doing everything that we can to ensure it does.“
Boo at the Zoo is one of Zoo New York’s biggest fundraising events. They don’t yet know how much they’ve earned this year.
The zoo’s next event is the Winter Wonderlights event held in December.
