NYSNA Strike Notice ‘Rescinded At Some’ New York Hospitals, But 16,000 Nurses ‘Still Eye’ January 12th Strike - Union To Hold Daily Press Briefing Today Ahead Of Monday Deadline

Dave Muoio at Fierce Healthcare reports New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA)-represented Nurses have rescinded Strike notices given to seven New York City Safety-Net Hospitals after making “major progress” on the terms of to-be-settled contracts. Still, NYSNA said there’s an ongoing gulf between their demands and the positions of five other Hospitals in New York City and three in Long Island. That leaves nearly 16,000 Nurses on track to walk off the job on Monday (January 12th). The notices were rescinded for Flushing Hospital Medical Center, Maimonides Medical Center, One Brooklyn Health’s Interfaith Medical Center, One Brooklyn Health’s Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center, The Brooklyn Hospital Center, Wyckoff Heights Medical Center and Richmond University Medical Center. NYSNA will hold a press briefing today (Monday, January 8th) with NYSNA President Nancy Hagans providing an update on New York City contract negotiations ahead of the deadline. Five Hospitals and nearly 16,000 Nurses will go on Strike in just four days in what will be the largest Nurse Strike in New York City History if those Hospitals do not agree to a fair contract that protects the safe staffing standards Nurses won when they went on Strike three years ago – and health care coverage for the Nurses who care for New York.
