Hot neighborhoods included Prospect Heights, Crown Heights and Sheepshead Bay, among others.
September was a hot month for home sales in New York City, with one in four Brooklyn homes selling above asking, according to the latest StreetEasy report.Â
Six Brooklyn neighborhoods clocked in with the most home sales over asking, the report found. Homes sellers in Prospect Heights, Park Slope, Brooklyn Heights, Crown Heights, Williamsburg and Sheepshead Bay found that there were enough buyers that competed to buy their homes. On the top range, Prospect Heights homeowners received 47% more than the asking price, while Sheepshead Bay residents got 20% more.
September was the hottest for the city’s home sales market since 2021, thanks to moderating mortgage rates making modest affordability improvements for would-be buyers, the report said. And unlike in the national market, sellers came back in force to the city to capitalize on the increased buyer activity.

Homes entering contract spent nine fewer days on market than a year ago, and one in five homes sold above asking in September, according to the report.
Rising new contracts also point to resilient demand for homes in Brooklyn despite strong competition. In September, 494 homes in the borough entered contract, up 10.8% from a year ago, and spent a median of 64 days on market, 10 days faster than a year ago. Amid strong buyer demand, the median asking price in Brooklyn rose 4.6% from last year to $1.098 million.
