THE BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11)– A son was arrested Thursday for allegedly strangling his father to death in a Bronx apartment two years ago, according to police sources.
Washington resident Essa Kouyate, 26, was charged with murder in connection with the killing of 48-year-old Yaya Kouyate in 2023, police said. The son was apprehended in Washington three weeks ago before he was extradited to New York City, sources said.
The victim was found dead on the bathroom floor in his 12-floor apartment in the building at 1463 Hoe Ave. at around 10:30 a.m. on April 14, 2023, according to the NYPD.
There were no signs of trauma when the body was initially found, but the medical examiner later determined the dad died of a compression to the neck, police said.
It was unclear what sparked the attack.
The suspect’s arraignment was pending on Thursday.
