For the second straight night, protesters filled city streets demanding answers after a woman was shot and killed by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent in Minneapolis.

“These aren’t flash-in-the-pans that are happening. It has been building up for years,” Brooklyn resident Obi Afriyie said.

The woman killed was identified as Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old mother who was shot Wednesday during an ICE enforcement operation.

“This vehicle was used to hit this officer. It was used as a weapon, and the officer feels as though his life was in jeopardy,” Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said.

Noem traveled to New York on Thursday and defended the agent’s actions, while local leaders in Minnesota dispute that account.

“We’re here tonight to say that’s not what happened. We all saw that video. You can’t tell me I’m seeing something I’m not seeing,” Brooklyn resident Savitri Durkee said.

Demonstrators say the video of the incident circulating only intensifies their concerns and distrust.

“It makes me feel speechless. It makes me feel like anybody is in danger,” Manhattan resident Mason Reeves said.

A defense attorney at the protest says the video raises serious legal questions about accountability.

“I don’t even think there needs to be an investigation by the Minnesota State Police any further than watching that video. I’ve had clients arrested for far, far less, for less serious things,” Defense Attorney Eli Northrup said.

And for many in the city, there’s a sense that what happened there could just as easily happen in the five boroughs.

“Renee Nicole Good could have been my neighbor. She could have been me,” Brooklyn resident Madeleine Macgillivray said.

The FBI is leading the investigation into the shooting. Organizers say they’ll continue demonstrating until they see accountability and change.
